In Our Time: Words + Music For A World Turned Upside Down

by Poetry Slabs

PoetrySlabs (the people behind the 20-foot-high Carol Ann Duffy poem on a wall at Norwood Bus Garage) and West Norwood Voices, a thriving local choir, will present 20th-century poems and songs that not only reflect the uncertainties of the times in which they were composed but still have tremendous resonance today.

The featured poetry – read by performers from South London Theatre – will include pieces by British national treasures WH Auden and Louis MacNeice, San Francisco Beat-era legend Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and numerous poets who suffered under Stalinism and Nazism in Romania, Poland, and Czechoslovakia.

Featured composers and songwriters include Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
